Our most used XI in PL era
|
From the Athletic - based on the same 11 that have started most games together. Quite surprising. Others in there - Arsenal’s strongest 11 in the invincible season only started together twice.
West Ham United (1993-94) (4-4-2): Miklosko; Breacker, Potts, Gale, Burrows; Bishop, Butler, Marsh, Holmes; Morley, Chapman Used 10 times
In many ways, this is the quintessential West Ham line-up: a combination of cult heroes (Ludek Miklosko), club legends (Tony Gale, Steve Potts), big club cast-offs (David Burrows, Mike Marsh), gritty journeymen (Peter Butler, Trevor Morley) and veterans seeking one last payday (Lee Chapman). Ian Bishop is the maestro in the middle of it all, the diamond in the rough. With his flowing mane and majestic passing, he combined grace and flare with passion and a taste for aggro. He was also no stranger to the odd beer-related tabloid mini-scandal. in other words, the consummate West Ham player.
This early 1990s team was bounced like a yo-yo between the top two tiers. It was not exactly a vintage line-up but at least half the players remain extremely dear to West Ham fans’ hearts — they pulled off the odd surprise giantkilling and for the most part, played with fire in their belly. But Chapman — once great for Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United — really was the worst centre-forward many of us have ever seen at West Ham.

I remember a time where we had Dowie and a veteran Mike Newell (on loan) up front for a few games. Think Steve Jones was back up. That was the worst I’ve seen - I think that led to Hartson and Kitson being signed

David Kelly, Ian Dowie, John Radford and Lee Chapman.
Take your pick.

Lee Chapman was shit.
I was in the BM stand right at the front and he had just missed a sitter and he got absolute pelters.
Made Haller look mobile.

Just from memory, Mike Newell and Steve Jones were immeasurably worse than Chapman. Now that's quite a feat, and no endorsement of Chapman at all, but they managed it. And that's not even including playing Ian Pearce there for a bit, or Marco Boogers, and probably many others who could be in the reckoning more recently such as Camara or Mccarthy or Mido.

This one: Ξ; it's a guess, but instinctively, I reckon there's more Greeks we've been after that have the letter at the frontt, so not ξ

Yeah forgot Coufal.
But he doesn't change it much. Incredible that the record is only 10 matches

By my reckoning the team that started our previous match has started together twice, so quite a way to go. And fingers crossed Antonio will be back soon so prevent it!

Loved that season!
Burrows, Marsh & Chapman turned things around for us.

Think John Radford takes some beating as the worst West Ham centre forward.

Chapman was good at falling over and earning free kicks but little else.

Billy Bonds was manager. Old school, play well and keep your place, no rotation nonsense.

Seem to remember Chapman, Marsh and Burrows turning it around for us with Dicksy going to Liverpool at that time. Think Chapman scored one in their first game a 2-0 win at Blackburn I think.

There are many many worse centre forwards than Lee Chapman who've been at West ham.
